The Business Edge - Protecting Business Assets From Loss

Volume 3, Issue 9

A Look at Employee Retention

Retaining quality employees sometimes requires using fresh, new strategies. One option is offering employees flexibility with their work schedules.

Workplace flexibility gives employees more control over how they do their jobs and, equally important, how they take care of their families. Under such an arrangement, employees determine a flexible work schedule that allows them to complete their jobs well and in a timely manner. Creativity is called for in striking an acceptable balance between the business’s hours of operation and applicable Federal labor and hour laws.

Flextime has been known to help employers retain good employees. Other valuable strategies often emerge when employers take the time to do the following:

  • understand what people want out of their careers
  • identify factors that contribute to employee turnover
  • review recruitment strategies
  • evaluate employee training and development activities
  • keep financial benefit plans up-to-date

A productive workforce is a two-way street. Each effort you make to promote beneficial relationships can go a long way toward building and maintaining the optimal workforce for your business.
